South Putnam Board approves cafeteria purchase, facility use

Friday, March 15, 2019

During a meeting which took less than half-an-hour, the South Putnam School Board addressed only a couple of actionable items on its agenda Wednesday evening.

Superintendent Bruce Bernhardt first brought a request for the use of the softball diamonds and the football field at South Putnam High School by the Youth League teams. The board approved the request.

Bernhardt also brought a request by Food Service Director Lori Boyce to purchase a new steam kettle for the kitchen at the high school. In the request, Boyce asked to purchase the new item from B&B Food Distributors for $15,535 to replace the current one, which has become worn out. Bernhardt related that other prices had been compared, and that the purchase from B&B was the cheapest. The board approved the request, which will come out of the school’s cafeteria fund.

Board members also recognized South Putnam Schools’ Students of the Month. Kindergartener Remmi Tasker and fifth-grader Summer Benassi were recognized by Central and Fillmore Elementary respectively, sixth-grader Chlara Pistelli represented South Putnam Middle School and senior Garrett Heavin was honored by staff at South Putnam High School.

The board also approved the following personnel report:

• Retirement: Michael Fischer, Central Elementary teacher;

• New hires: Clint Witt, bus driver; and Roshia Scott, MS/HS track coach.

Before the meeting was adjourned, Bernhardt announced that South Putnam students will not have to report to school on Friday, March 22 before spring break. This is because South Putnam does not have to make up a snow day, which this day was previously set aside as.

The next regular meeting of the South Putnam School Board is scheduled for April 10 at 7 p.m. in the South Putnam Middle School/High School Learning Center.
