Roachdale Library revisits 2018 success

Tuesday, March 19, 2019

To the Editor:

The year 2018 was a busy year for the Roachdale Public Library. The library staff and board of trustees strive to offer services beyond typical services of circulating books and movies.

A grant from Indiana Humanities enabled the library to share an author visit with the North Putnam Community. Bill Kenley, author of “High School Runner,” spoke with NP students on finding your niche while navigating through high school. In the summer of 2018, the Roachdale Public Library offered a series of free community concerts. This was made possible through a generous grant of the Putnam County Community Foundation. In addition, participants of the Summer Reading Program, “Libraries Rock” were given unique opportunities to participate in drum circles, see and try new instruments, and even see a children’s opera.

Programming such as our Summer Reading, Friday Story Time and our mobile Story Time program (which visits three local daycares) is made possible by a number of community sponsors. In the late fall, the library installed a much-needed LED lighting upgrade thanks to McCloud Electric. Ray McCloud graciously donated some materials and time in order to complete electrical updates and add brighter lighting.

It was also a banner year for the Roachdale Friends of the Library (FOL), which celebrated its first anniversary in 2018. The Roachdale FOL held a very successful fundraiser during the annual Roachdale Rib and Blues Fest.

We wish to thank our contributors to making 2018 such a notable year for the Roachdale Public Library and the Roachdale Community:

McCloud Electric, Raymond McCloud, Roachdale Friends of the Library, Putnam County Community Foundation, Fall Creek Foundation (Andrew and Mindy Thomas), Spear Corp. (Brian and Kristie Spear), Roachdale Building Supply, Jean Holder, DDS, Tri-County State Bank, Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Roachdale Hardware, Delta Theta Tau, Roachdale Just R Time.

Summer Reading Performers: Upward Journey, The Daily Worship Project, Kathleen Lockwood, Zoo Soul Drum Circle, Hendricks Symphony, Indianapolis Children’s Opera, DeDee Schwomeyer, Lori Baker, Covered Bridge Harmony, Bonnie Flater, Indiana Folk Music Society and Max and Beth Bigelow.

Summer Reading Prize Sponsors: McDonald’s (Greencastle), Casey’s (Roachdale), Random House (Crawfordsville), Indy Eleven soccer, King’s Island, Indiana Fever, and the Indianapolis Indians.

The Roachdale Public Library values our connections with the community and local businesses.
