Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:05 a.m. on Wednesday, Kevin M. Boller, 31, Brazil, was eastbound on U.S. 40, near County Road 900 West, in a 2018 Nissan Verano when he hit a deer.

Deputy Markus Witt estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Donald Jerrell Collier, 17, Terre Haute, was eastbound in the left lane of Interstate 70 near the 48-mile marker in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. Jose M. Santiago Gramajo was also eastbound in the right lane in a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pulling a trailer.

Due to a language barrier, Deputies Markus Witt, Scott Ducker and Brian Helmer could not take Santizo’s account of what caused the accident.

Collier told Witt he saw Santizo approaching in the right lane coming up to pass him on the right. He said he saw Santizo’s trailer shift rapidly from side to side, after which Santizo’s truck shifted to the left and connected with the rear passenger side of his vehicle.

Collier said his vehicle’s rear end was pushed to the north, which caused his vehicle to cross the right lane and make contact with the guardrail on the south side of the road. Collier’s truck then spun around, back across both eastbound lanes and came to a stop facing northeast in the median.

Santizo’s vehicle was in the median, on the driver’s side, facing south. The trailer was 50 feet east of the truck, upright and facing east.

Both men were seen by medical personnel and claimed no major injuries.

Both trucks were towed. Damage was estimated at $10,000-$25,000.
