PUTNAMVILLE -- How fast is too fast on the interstate these days?

In a 70-mph zone, driving 108 mph will earn you a citation. Not for bravery, but perhaps for stupidity, as a Terre Haute teenager learned Thursday afternoon.

According to a report from the Indiana State Police Post at Putnamville, Master Trooper Don Farris issued a reckless driving citation to the 18-year-old Vigo County female traveling through Putnam County along Interstate 70.

She was cited for driving 108 mph in the westbound lanes of I-70 at the 37-mile marker, four miles west of Cloverdale.

While the citation will undoubtedly carry a hefty fine, it might have been worse for the young woman. According to Indiana criminal code, reckless driving can also be a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

  • I was under the impression that 26 miles per hour over the speed limit was an automatic license revocation. not just a ticket for speeding.
