Roachdale issues boil order advisory

Tuesday, April 9, 2019

ROACHDALE -- In consultation with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, it has been determined that Roachdale water customers should boil their drinking water, the town office announced Tuesday afternoon.

The precautionary measure is recommended following a broken water line on Indiana Street just north of State Road 236.

Town utility workers Nick Miller and Levi Chinn spent much of Monday tracking down the leak, which left some customers without water for part of the day.

After finishing up the job, Miller understandably arrived late to the town board meeting Monday night, reporting that the work had left a “pretty good sized hole” in the street as he and Chinn tried to track down the exact spot of the leak.

It is recommended that all cooking and drinking water be brought to a complete boil for five minutes before using.

Residents should continue to boil all cooking and drinking water until notified that it is no longer necessary.

The boil order has been enacted as a precautionary measure, until two clean water samples are returned from the state laboratory.

Roachdale officials ask that until the drinking water issue is resolved, residents conserve water and only use what is necessary for household and personal needs.

Residents’ cooperation is appreciated and town officials will provide updates as necessary until the drinking water problem has been solved.

Anyone with questions concerning the drinking water problem may contact the Roachdale Water Department at 522-1532.

Additionally, Roachdale Clerk-Treasurer Debbie Sillery is reminding residents that they can stay up to date on issues such as this through the town’s utilization of REACH Alerts.

The service allows the town to share important information not only regarding waterline breaks and boil orders but also power outages, road closures, delays due to construction or accidents, hazardous material situations, Amber and silver alerts, police actions and civic events.

Residents may opt to receive notification through text messages, voice calls or emails. Each household may register up to four phone numbers and four email addresses.

Interested Roachdale residents should go to www.reachalert.com, click on “My Account,” then “Create Account,” and follow the onscreen instructions, selecting Roachdale as the network name.
