Area churches plan Holy Week services

Fillmore churches

Fillmore Christian Church and Fillmore United Methodist Church will join together for three worship services during Holy Week at Fillmore Christian Church this year.

A Maundy Thursday worship service will begin at 7 p.m. Holy communion will be served.

A Good Friday worship service will begin at 7 p.m..

Easter sunrise service will begin at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast.

Rev. Dr. Mike Faust will be preaching Maundy Thursday and Easter Sunrise. Rev. Dr. Bryan Palmer-Smith will be preaching Good Friday.

The public is invited.

Greencastle Presbyterian Church

Holy Week at Greencastle Presbyterian begins with Palm Sunday on April 14. Palm Sunday celebrates Christ’s life and triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The service is at 10:30 a.m.

On Thursday, April 18, the congregation will celebrate with a Maundy Thursday communion service of remembrance of the Last Supper of Jesus and the sad days that followed.

The service is at 7 p.m.

Remembing the crucifixion of Christ and what it means to us, Good Friday will be observed on Friday, April 19.

The public is invited to join the congregation in the sanctuary for a period of reflection and meditation on the last words of Christ on the cross. As quiet music plays, the last words of Christ and short meditations on those words will be projected in the sanctuary.

Worshippers may come and go as they please from noon to 3 p.m. for blessing and comfort at Christ’s words and timeless sacrifice.

Finally, the Lord’s resurrection will be celebrated with a sunrise service on Easter Sunday, April 21.

This is an outdoor service behind the church as the sun rises over a large wooden cross, signifying that death is defeated, Jesus is risen. It is a short service of scripture, songs and a meditation.

After the sunrise service, the church offers breakfast in the fellowship hall for anyone interested.

At 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary, the traditional Easter Sunday Service will take place. Special music and a chance for fellowship with other believers on the most joyous day of the year are planned.

Wellspring Christian Church

Wellspring Christian Church, located at U.S. 40 and Belle Union Road (725 East), will celebrate with services on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Good Friday service is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, April 19.

On Sunday, April 21, the church will celebrate the most holy of days with three chances to worship.

The celebration of Christ’s resurrection begins with sunrise service at 7 a.m., with breakfast to follow.

Sunday school is set for 9 a.m., followed by regular Sunday worship at 10 a.m.
