Elvie Joan Cope

Elvie Joan (Oliver) Cope of Greencastle passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 22, 2019 with her children by her side.

She was born on Jan. 11, 1943 in Burnt Point, Newfoundland, now Canada, to the late John and Marian (Tucker) Oliver.

She married Donald Cope Sr. on Feb. 21, 1958 in St. Johns, Newfoundland. This happy union was blessed with seven children. Elvie spent her life as a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years; brothers Calvin, Ralph, Oswald, Perry and Johnny; sister Loretta Bishop; and daughter-in-law Patricia A. Norman Cope.

Elvie is survived by her loving sisters, Jackie, Florence, Beverly, Jeanette and Maxine; her loving children, Lydia Cope, Donald Cope Jr. and his wife Kathy, Debbie Crowe and her husband Junior, Steve Cope and his wife Debbie, Richard Cope and his wife Susan, Robert "Bobby" Cope, and Annette Henshilwood and her husband Jason; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and a very special brother-in-law, Chuck Cope and his wife Pam.

Friends and family may visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, April 26 at Bainbridge Christian Church, 402 S. Washington St., Bainbridge.

The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. also at the church with Pastor Donnie Watson officiating. Burial will take place in Little Walnut Cemetery in Greencastle.
