After rolling his truck and fleeing the scene Tuesday morning, a Cloverdale man found himself in Putnam County Hospital.

He may also soon be facing charges springing from the incident.

Shortly before 11 a.m., Scott Cole, 47, Cloverdale, was eastbound toward Greencastle on West Walnut when he ran off the south side of the road at the entrance to the DePauw Nature Park.

While the pickup truck narrowly missed the stone entrance marker, it hit a large rock and then hit, almost head-on, a larger tree. The truck rolled on its side and came to rest down and embankment.

A witness saw the accident and then saw Cole run eastbound from the scene of the crash. The witness called Putnam County Dispatch.

With Deputy Scott Ducker, a Greencastle officer and DePauw Public Safety arriving at the crash scene, fellow PCSD and GPD officers began searching the area for the driver.

During a search of the vehicle, a syringe was located behind the driver’s seat.

Cole was eventually spotted in a field along Columbia Street just west of the Greencastle sewage treatment plant.

Due to the serious nature of the accident, the suspect was transported by Operation Life ambulance to Putnam County Hospital rather than being arrested.

Ducker will be turning the report over to the Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges.

The Greencastle Fire Department was on the accident scene to help with traffic and cleanup of the scene. The truck was towed by Seniour’s.

So, the GPD declined to arrest the driver who committed at least one felony, if not multiple offenses, and instead simply handed his report to the prosecutor's office for perusal?

This is your tax dollars hard at work NOT keeping you safe.

If this moron (driver) goes out and injures someone while driving impaired (ostensibly waiting for the prosecutor to decide if they want to do their jobs) - it will be on GPD's head b/c they failed to do their job and get this person off the street.
