County Jail

Seven people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 11:19 p.m. Christopher Lee Haas, 30, Roachdale, was housed at the jail for domestic battery, strangulation and interference with the reporting of a crime.

• At 10:37 a.m. Allen Gregory Barnett, 25, Greencastle, was booked in on a Marion County warrant.

• At 4:02 a.m. Ernest Michael Bixler, 52, Waveland, was lodged at the jail on an Owen County warrant.

Saturday

• At 7:08 p.m. Phillip Berry Hinton, 57, Greenwood, was taken into custody as a habitual traffic violator.

• At 2:37 a.m. Dustin James McCracken, 24, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

Friday

• At 11:18 a.m. Paul Henry Lantzy, 46, Greencastle, was booked in for nonsupport of a dependent child.

• At 8:59 a.m. Roy Allen Mitchell, 29, Poland, was lodged at the jail for domestic battery.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 3:01 a.m. on Wednesday, Kevin J. Higar, 54, Reelsville, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in a 2006 Ford Mustang when he hit a deer.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to five recent dispatches:

• At 7:59 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 406 S. Indiana St. for a smoke alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:02 p.m. and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 8:08 p.m.

• At 8:09 p.m. on Friday, GFD was called out on a good intent call for an elevator alarm near 206 E. Washington St. Units arrived at 8:11 and checked neighboring buildings, but could not find anyone trapped in an elevator. GFD returned to station at 9 p.m.

• At 9:39 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 208 E. Olive St. for a smoke alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:44 and found that the alarm was due to spray paint. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 9:54 p.m.

• At 3:17 p.m. on Sunday, GFD responded to a call for police assistance at 5491 S. County Rd. 375 W. Units arrived at 3:33 and aided the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department with making entry into the residence for a welfare check. GFD went back into service at 3:54 p.m.

• At 8:48 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 106 S. Spring St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:50 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 8:56 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed 11 medical assists during this time.
