County athletes among top seeds in girls’ track sectional

Several individual athletes and relay teams from Putnam County are seeded in the top three for today’s Terre Haute North girls’ track sectional.

The top three finishers in each event advance to Tuesday’s Bloomington North Regional, plus any other meeting the designated participant standard.

Competition begins at 5:30 p.m. and real-time results can be found at online www.timingmd.net.

Topping those athletes are North Putnam’s Ashley O’Neal and Greencastle’s Sydney Lewis.

O’Neal is the top seed in both the 100-meter dash and the high jump, while Lewis is the top-seeded pole vaulter with a nine-inch advantage over the second-ranked athlete.

Athletes seeded second in their respective events are Greencastle’s Kennedy Trigg (long jump), Seelye Stoffregen (300 hurdles) and Claire Gillen (shot put), Cloverdale’s Chelsie Edwards (800) and Kenzie Stoltz (100 hurdles) and North Putnam’s Emily Gasho (discus).

Third-seeded athletes are Greencastle’s Jada Amis (shot put) and Cloverdale’s Keeley Hughes (discus) and Stoltz (pole vault), as well as North Putnam’s 4x800 and 4x100 relay teams.

Stoffregen is .35 of a second away from Greencastle’s school record in the 300 hurdles.
