Norma Jean Steele

Norma Jean Steele, 91, of New Winchester, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2019 at Countryside Meadows in Avon, where she had lived for the last four years.

She was born in Putnam County on Dec. 25, 1927 to the late Hobart and Frances (Beaman) Stallcop.

Norma Jean was a graduate of Reelsville High School and attended Indiana Business College in Indianapolis.

She married Melvin W. Steele, who preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 2004.

Norma Jean was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She and Melvin were members of Whitestone Christian Church, through which they shared their Christian belief and many hours of service.

Norma Jean was also a member of the Groveland Homemakers Club.

Survivors include her children, Jerry (Barbara) Steele of Danville, Dale (Jean) Steele of Brownsburg, Dennis (Penny) Steele of Llano, Texas, and Donna (Michael) Pond of Fort Wayne; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, June Foreman and Sue Bartley, both of Reelsville.

Contributions in memory of Norma Jean may be made to Whitestone Christian Church, 8045 W. U.S. 36, Coatesville, IN 46121.

Services will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 17 at Whitestone Christian Church, seven miles west of Danville, with visitation there from noon to time of service. Burial will follow in New Winchester Cemetery.
