BELLE UNION — A burned-out car found in Jefferson Township and a stolen car in Fillmore turned out to be the same vehicle.

Deputy Matt Biggs took a report of an Infiniti Q50 reported stolen in Fillmore on Monday.

Later, about 10 miles away in Belle Union, the burned-out shell of what appeared to be a Q50 was found. The fire was out and the car was cold to the touch by the time it was found.

Deputy Bobby Boyd was called to the scene of the fire.

Though it seemed obvious that the two incidents were related, the VIN numbers were burned off the vehicle and the plate was removed, making confirmation difficult.

On Tuesday, Sgt. Donnie Pettit and Indiana State Trooper Dan Herron investigated the vehicle.

Herron was able to find a VIN number and confirm that it was the same vehicle.

Pettit did not say if police had a suspect in the incident.
