County Jail

Four people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently

Wednesday

• At 2:01 p.m. Kristy Lynn Sparks, 40, Greencastle, was taken into custody on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 1:42 p.m. John Burris Michael, 71, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for driving while intoxicated-refusal.

Tuesday

• At 9:52 a.m. Steve Denzil Smith, 46, Indianapolis, was booked in for carrying a handgun without a license and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 9:37 a.m. Frank Donovan Saathoff, 33, Brazil, was lodged at the jail for probation violation.

City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 11:05 p.m. Wednesday, Amber Dawn Neese, 34, Greencastle, was arrested on North Jackson Street by Officer Zach Rhine.

Neese was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and criminal recklessness.

Police said she reportedly struck a pedestrian in the Eagles Lodge parking lot and left the scene.

Two recent citations were issued to the same driver, City Police reported.

• At 11:59 a.m. Wednesday, Frank Schafer, 19, Greencastle, was stopped on East Washington Street by Capt. Chris Jones.

Schafer was cited for speeding, reportedly doing 30 mph in a 20-mph school zone, and for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies responded to one recent property-damage crash.

• At 3:40 p.m. Sunday, Trinity A. Mornout, 17, Brazil, was southbound on Manhattan Road in a 2009 Dodge Charger. She told Chief Deputy Matt Demmings she was traveling too fast and was unfamiliar with the road.

As the car entered a 90-degree turn, it crossed into the northbound lane. Mornout then saw an oncoming car and steered back to the left, crossing the southbound lane and coming to rest in the ditch.

The impact cause damage to the left front quarter panel of Mornout’s car.

Demmings estimated damage at less than $1,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to four recent dispatches:

• At 9:53 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a call for a vehicle fire at the Speedway East gas station. Units arrived on the scene at 9:58 to find the fire had been extinguished. GFD saw that the fire was in the engine compartment, but could not determine the cause. GFD returned to station at 10:08 a.m.

• At 1:52 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was called to Wendy’s for a smoke odor investigation. GFD arrived at 1:57 but could not locate the source for the odor. GFD returned to station at 2:21 p.m.

• At 9:21 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at 207 Elizabeth St. Units arrived on the scene at 9:25 and assisted a pedestrian who had been hit. GFD returned to station at 9:45 p.m.

• At 5:44 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was alerted to a large tree in the roadway at the intersection of Martinsville and West streets. Units arrived on the scene at 5:51 but called the Greencastle Street Department to assist with removing the tree. GFD returned to station at 6:39 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed four medical assists during this time.
