City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to nine recent dispatches:

• At 10:14 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 505 S. Jackson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:16 and found that water had leaked into a detector’s wiring and caused the alarm. DePauw Public Safety was called to repair the detector, and GFD reset the alarm. GFD left at 10:25 a.m.

• At 11:06 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 19 N. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:11 but could not determine the cause of the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 11:17 a.m.

• At 5:28 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 413 S. Locust St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:32 and determined that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 5:36 p.m.

• At 7:37 p.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of Avenue D and Percy L. Julian Drive. Units arrived on the scene at 7:42 and assisted with care of the patient. GFD went back into service at 7:47 p.m.

• At 9:28 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was alerted to an electrical short at 92 Autumn Glen Dr. Units arrived at the residence at 9:38 and found that water had leaked into a ceiling light. The light was removed and its wiring was secured. GFD advised the homeowner to contact an electrician to repair the light. GFD returned to station at 9:55 a.m.

• At 5:25 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 905 S. College Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:33 and tried to reset the alarm, but could not due to a system trouble. A detector head was cleaned and the system was then able to be reset. GFD left at 5:50 a.m.

• At 8:31 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:36 but could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 8:45 p.m.

• At 8:22 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 406 S. Indiana St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:25 but could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 8:27 a.m.

• At 1:45 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched again to 413 S. Locust St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:52 and determined again that the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 1:57 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed seven medical assists during this time.
