Man located in fatal Jefferson Township off-road vehicle crash

BELLE UNION - An Indianapolis man died in an off-road vehicle crash Thursday evening in Jefferson Township.

Harvey Stringer, age 68, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Indiana Conservation Officers reported the accident took place around 7:30 p.m. on private property along County Road 600 South.

Stringer was found unresponsive, slumped over the handlebars of his off-road vehicle, which had crashed into a deep ditch. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim is believed to have been operating the off-road vehicle in tall grass with poor visibility when the vehicle dropped into a deep ditch approximately five feet wide. No helmet or protective equipment was being worn during the crash.

Indiana Conservation Officers are currently investigating the incident. The Putnam County Coroner and the family of the deceased agreed that no autopsy would be performed. No foul play is suspected at this time.

Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, Putnam County Operation Life Ambulance Service, Putnam County Coroner’s Office, Jefferson Township Fire Department and Indiana State Police assisted at the scene.
