Michael Joseph Mitchell, 67, passed away on May 11, 2019 in Sacramento, Calif.

Known as Mike, he spent most of his life in Greencastle and always referred to it as his hometown.

He was born on March 8, 1952 to Robert K. and Mary Bennett Mitchell of Beech Grove.

Mike held down several jobs in Greencastle, including those with the Putnam County Highway Department and the Greencastle Street Department, but he truly found his calling when he was hired on at WJNZ radio station.

Most remember Mike as the host of The Swap Shop, providing a buying and selling service to listeners across the county.

Survivors include his children, Cassandra Gayle Shea of Indianapolis and Michael Andrew Mitchell of Greencastle; one grandson, Theodore Mitchell; two granddaughters, Lillian and Isabella Sutherlin; his longtime partner, Karen Alexander of Sacramento; his brother, Robert Mitchell; and a niece and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Amelia Shea.

Mike spent much of his life getting to know the community and people of Greencastle and, even when living across the country, would lovingly refer to it as home.
