With special honors planned for classes with as many as 70 years since graduation and as few as five, DePauw University will host its annual alumni reunion weekend from Thursday through Sunday on campus.

The event will mean a little extra traffic around town and likely a boost to local businesses as more than 1,200 DePauw graduates and guests converge on Greencastle for the four-day celebration.

One place to look for extra crowds will be at the Greencastle First Friday celebration downtown, which is being planned in conjunction with a DePauw Downtown Block Party from 8-11 p.m.

To go along with the luau theme of the June First Friday, black and gold leis will be available at the DePauw alumni tent. Alums will have shuttle service to and from campus for the event.

Other major events unlikely to spill over from campus include an all-alumni dinner and celebration of alumni achievement on Friday evening at Hoover Hall, individual class receptions and dinners on Saturday evening and alumni chapel at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Individual classes will have celebrations of their own throughout the weekend, with a special focus on the 50th anniversary of the class of 1969, including presentations from professor emeritus Robert Sedlack, Ken Owen, as well as Greencastle native, Indiana University professor and Beatles expert Glenn Gass, who will present “From Rubber Soul to Abbey Road: Our College Magical Mystery Tour.”
