Letter of the Law

Friday, June 14, 2019
Gov. Eric Holcomb ceremonially signs State Rep. Beau Bairdís bill into law Thursday at the Statehouse. The new law will help Hoosier farmers fight harmful and invasive weeds. Farmers are battling herbicide-resistant super weeds that require expensive specialized treatment plans to eradicate. The noxious weeds law ensures these plants are identified quickly, saving the state and farmers money. House Enrolled Act 1492 is the Greencastle Republicanís first authored legislation to become law since he took office. It goes into effect July 1.

  • LOL - I'm sure there is more to this but from the informational paragraph above it just seems odd that a State Law is required to identify stubborn weeds.

  • Invasive plants can become a nuisance on many levels. My industry deals with the issue often and laws are necessary to help in eradication.

HEA 1492 has absolutely nothing to do with weeds (undesired plants).

It is about commercial vehicles, and various other BMV related stuff.

Can someone on the BG staff get the right bill, please?

And Indiana already has "weed" laws. You can get in legal trouble for certain plants growing on your property.

So I am not sure that this article actually does anything other than make it look like the Baird scion is actually doing something.

My bad - apparently there IS a HEA 1492 for adding certain weeds to the Bad Plant List.

(When I searched upon reading this article, HEA 1492 pulled up a different bill.)
