Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 7:19 a.m. Monday, Austin M. Gray, 20, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 875 East approaching a 90-degree turn at County Road 375 North in a 2016 Ford Focus.

Gray told Deputy Brian Helmer he could not see due to fog and missed the corner. The car left the south side of the road, hitting a county highway culvert.

Gray had minor bleeding on his arm and complained of shortness of breath due to airbag deployment. He was taken to the hospital.

Gray told Helmer the car was not insured and the plate did not belong to the vehicle. He said he bought it in January and had still not been to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Helmer cited Gray for driving without financial responsibility and gave him two warnings for driving with false and fictitious registration and for an expired registration.

The car was towed. Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.
