Shrum to compete in hoop showcase
Cloverdale senior-to-be Sammie Shrum will be the only Western Indiana Conferfence player participating in the 17th annual IBCA/IHSAA Underclass Showcase on July 15 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis.
Shrum helped lead the Clovers to a 22-4 record last year and the Western Indiana Conference title, as well as a sectional runnerup finish.
She is a two-time all-Putnam County player.
Last year, she was second on the Clover squad in scoring with 14.1 points per game, and also added 3.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.4 steals per game.
While no other WIC players were invited to the event, some other opponents of Putnam County teams will be involved and are listed in bold face.
Staged by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association with support from the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the Underclass Showcase events are designed to give exposure to approximately 240 of the top basketball prospects (120 boys and 117 girls) from across the state to colleges across the state and nation.
Action will begin at 2 p.m. and last until about 7:45 p.m. The Girls’ Showcase has remained in July, but it could move dates in the future if the NCAA women’s basketball recruiting calendar is adjusted.
The showcase events are open to the public. Admission is $5 per person per day. IBCA-member coaches will be admitted at no charge by showing their IBCA membership card.
