NP board approves handbook
BAINBRIDGE -- In the last regular meeting of the summer before school begins next month, the North Putnam School Board had only two action items to address on its agenda Monday evening.
The board approved the adoption of a handbook of guidelines for all non-certified staff at North Putnam Schools for the 2019-20 school year. Superintendent Nicole Singer said that the handbook was based on feedback, and that it would be sent out electronically.
In response to a question regarding use of social media, Singer said that the policy allows for freedom to broadly express views on issues like education, and that the only real restriction would be for support staff to not to discuss confidential information. Singer added that this is essentially the same policy for teachers.
The board also approved the adoption of an ECA credit card for purchases made by staff and administrators. Singer related that the funds loaded onto the card would be for extracurriculars, and that the principals of each school building would have the responsibility to approve the purchases.
They also will have the onus to watch the balance, as the credits limits cannot exceed $15,000 and each school has its own set cap. However, Singer said that the new card would essentially eliminate the need to physically get one through the central office, which she described as being “cumbersome.”
This month’s meeting was moved to Monday from its normal spot this Thursday to accommodate the beginning of activities at the Putnam County 4-H Fair.
The next regular meeting of the North Putnam School Board is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. in the North Putnam Schools Administration Office in Bainbridge.
