Brooks, Whitaker pace GPP to Adidas tourney title

INDIANAPOLIS — A pair of Putnam County basketball standouts helped the Grand Park Premier Black 2021 boys’ basketball team win the 16U Platinum Bracket championship in the Adidas Invitational last weekend.

North Putnam’s Mason Brooks led the team with 18 points, including 6 of 6 at the free throw line, in a 60-39 win over Indiana Elite Hoop Dreams. Greencastle’s Brody Whitaker added 15 points.

Whitaker had 18 points, including three treys, in an 87-77 win over the Niagara Tigers. Brooks added six points.

Grand Park Premier won its third game 67-37 over Rock Summit Basketball. Whitaker had eight points in that victory.

The squad improved its season record to 30-4 with an 80-75 win over Indiana Elite North. Brooks led the way with 22 points, while Whitaker added eight.

Other members of the team are Kyle Crim of Morristown, Trey Flatt of Covenant Christian, Evan Wilson of Noblesville, Kaden Howell of Madison-Grant and Caeden Kaopuiki and Will Leary of Carmel.

The Grand Park Premier team is coached by Vince Brooks, the new head coach at North Putnam.

The team will compete today through Sunday in the USA Basketball U.S. Open at Westfield and will close out its season on July 27-28 in the Adidas Hoosier Shootout at Noblesville.
