Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 1:24 a.m. Paul Quates, Bainbridge, was inside the building at 118 Main St., Bainbridge, when he heard something hit the building.

Quates looked out and saw a 2001 Toyota 4Runner pulling away. The vehicle drove around the block and then returned and parked.

The driver of the SUV, Angela R. Higgins, 51, Rockville, said she did not hit the building. However, Deputy Anthony Brown found that the vehicle and building had paint transfer consistent with one another.

Higgins tested at .11 BAC on a portable breath test and .08 on a certified test. She was booked in the Putnam County Jail at 3:15 a.m. for driving while intoxicated.

The vehicle was towed. Brown estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 1:13 a.m. on Tuesday, Ethan E. Litton, 16, Paragon, was eastbound on County Road 1000 South, near County Road 550 East in a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am.

While traveling at an unknown high rate of speed, Litton failed to negotiate a curve in the road.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman noted that instead, Litton’s car skidded for 10-12 feet and then entered the grass. It slid 43 yards into a fire hydrant. This turned the vehicle sideways and it slid another 12-15 yards into a heavily wooded tree line, where it rolled onto its top and came to a stop.

Litton Initially told Freeman, who was assisted at the scene by Cloverdale Deputy Marshall Billy Wallace and Indiana State Trooper Austin Fowler, that he was traveling 50-55 mph. He later said it was possibly 60-65 mph.

Litton and one of this passengers were not injured. Two others were treated and released at the scene by Operation Life.

No airbags deployed in the vehicle.

Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

The vehicle was towed. Freeman estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.
