County Jail

Nine people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 9:05 p.m. Juan de la Rosa Jr., 40, Lebanon, was lodged at the jail for domestic battery.

• At 6:32 p.m. Charles Perry Cooper, 31, Greencastle, was taken into custody for intimidation, battery by bodily fluid/waste, batter on law enforcement, resisting law enforcement and criminal mischief.

• At 4:58 p.m. Caitlyn Chaise Gibson, 26, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for possession of a synthetic drug or lookalike substance and possession of paraphernalia.

• At 4:54 p.m. Robbie James Rike, 36, Martinsville, was booked in for resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

Saturday

• At 6:01 p.m. Lavern Mary Kelly, 51, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for possession of marijuana.

Friday

• At 11:15 p.m. Edward William Julian, 40, Greencastle, was taken into custody on a Clay County warrant.

• At 7:50 p.m. Matthew Wade Manning, 35, Greencastle, was housed at the jail on a court order.

• At 1:55 p.m. Anthony Curtis Bauers, 36, Brazil, was booked in for auto theft, possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia and for being a habitual traffic violator.

• At 1:14 p.m. Aaron David Brenton, 37, Indianapolis, was lodged at the jail for possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated

• At 6:12 a.m. on Monday, Michael Ricketts, 38, Rockville, was westbound on County Road 150 North in a 2013 GMC Sierra registered to the Putnam County Highway Department when he hit a deer.

After hitting the animal, the vehicle went into the ditch. Ricketts was able to get the vehicle out of the ditch prior to the arrival of Deputy Tanner Brown.

Brown estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three recent dispatches:

• At 9:27 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to Opportunity Housing at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:32 and detected no signs of fire, but smelled marijuana smoke coming from rooms inside. No entry to the rooms could be made, and the alarm was reset. GFD left at 9:52 a.m.

• At 12:17 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was called to 1007 Avenue F for an unauthorized burn. Units arrived at 12:38 to find that the homeowner had used gasoline to burn wood. The homeowner was advised of the city burn ordinance and the danger of using gasoline, and then extinguished the fire. GFD returned to station at 12:44 a.m.

• At 3:59 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched again to Opportunity Housing at 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:05 a.m. but could not detect any signs of a fire. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 4:21 a.m.

Additionally, GFD performed four medical assists during this time.
