County Jail

One person was booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

• At 6:06 a.m. on Tuesday, Marvin Eugene Smith, 42, Denver, was lodged at the jail for driving a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 8:57 a.m. on Monday, Madison N. Short, 17, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 2008 Pontiac Torrent.

Short told Deputy Brian Helmer her front wheels began to shake a little. She said she tried to catch the wheel but she overcorrected and went off the roadway.

The vehicle went into a cornfield on the south side of the road. Helmer said the vehicle traveled a couple thousand feet through the corn before coming to a stop.

Short said she was not injured and did not need medical attention.

Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000, including damage to numerous rows of corn.

The car was driven from the scene.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three recent dispatches:

• At 4:01 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 602 Anderson St. to assist an individual with getting off of the roof of the property there. Units arrived at 4:03 and assisted the individual without any injury. GFD left at 4:30 p.m.

• At 8:55 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 162 W. CR 300 South for power lines down. Units arrived at 9:05 a.m. to find that a pole had been damaged from a motor vehicle accident. Duke Energy was alerted to the issue, and GFD returned to station at 9:28 a.m.

• At 2:56 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 312 N. College Ave. for a carbon monoxide alarm activation. Firefighters arrived at 2:59 and investigated the property, but could not detect any CO inside. GFd left at 3:14 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed six medical assists and had two disregards during this time.
