Jackie Ray Ivers, 85, of Greencastle, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday morning, Aug. 7, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Feb. 28,1934 to the late Clarence and Cora (Greemore) Ivers in Vincennes.

He accepted Christ as his savior on April 9, 1959, and his entire life testified to this truth. On April 11, 1959, he married Evada “Jane” (Jones) Ivers in Beal. She survives.

Jackie proudly served our country in the United States Army in the 11th Airborne.

He began working on a farm during his childhood and continued to do so until the 1970s, when he started a new career as a self-employed carpenter.

Over the years, he served as a deacon at Roachdale Baptist Church, Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Antioch Baptist Church, and more recently was a member of the Roachdale Baptist Church.

Jackie always made his family and spending time with them a priority. He enjoyed playing sports, fishing, hunting, gardening and reading books, especially his Bible. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Jane; children Travis (Pam) Ivers of Greencastle, Angela (Joe) Branson of Greencastle, Traci (Rodger) Amos of Charlottesville and Shannon (Carol) Ivers of Greencastle; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Susie (Muggs) Young of Vincennes and Linda Hancock of Monroe City; many nieces and nephews; and mother-in-law Eloise Jones of Vincennes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Alvie, Shirley, Vera, Donald, Gayle, Burdette and Betty; and father-in-law Luther Wilson Jones.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10 at Roachdale Baptist Church, 10 Lonoke St., Roachdale, with Pastor Seth Amos (grandson) officiating. Burial will follow in Clear Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Roachdale Baptist Church, Guatemala Fund.
