Humane society offers feral cat program

Tuesday, August 20, 2019

In an effort to reduce the number of feral kittens, the Humane Society of Putnam County operates a TNR (trap, neuter, release) program.

The Human Society provides a TNR assistance voucher to residents of Putnam County, which will pay 100 percent of the cost of neutering these cats. In some situations, they can offer assistance in trapping and transporting these animals.

TNR allows these cats to be returned to the neighborhoods where they have been living. They will no longer be able to reproduce, so over time the population of these community cat groups will decline.

Feral cats are, by nature, not accustomed to human contact. Thus, they aren’t usually adoptable.

For more information about this program, please see Don Williams at the Rescued Treasures store, 1021 Indianapolis Rd., Greencastle.
