Tox-Away Day set for Sept. 14 in Rockville

Thursday, August 22, 2019

The final Tox-Away Day of 2019 will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., rain or shine, at the Parke County Fairgrounds in Rockville.

Participants will not have to leave their cars as skilled personnel will unload items in a safe drive-through environment.

Small or mixed items should always be visible in a box or crate rather than a dark bag or container, which can be a safety hazard for workers.

The Tox-Away Day is for residents only, and businesses are prohibited.

Electronics such as computers, cell phones, gaming consoles, etc. can no longer be thrown in the trash or landfilled. Bring electronics and appliances to Tox-Away Day free of charge (exception: $20 for any size TV).

Tox-Away Days are also an opportunity to dispose of tires that are lying around collecting water, and which can turn into mosquito breeding grounds.

Farmers can bring whole tractor tires over 54” for only $25 each ($65 per tire savings paid for by the West Central Solid Waste District). “Quartered” tractor tires are free for the first two, then $5 each additional.

Number limits apply.

This is a great time to rid garages, sheds, and barns of old pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers and other hazardous items in containers no larger than five gallons.

For a complete list of accepted and non-accepted items, go to www.westcentralswd.com.

Last year, 138 tons of toxic or hazardous materials and problem wastes were safely removed from Parke, Montgomery and Putnam counties.

The next Tox-Away Day in Putnam County will take place in May of next year. Call the district office with any questions at 1-800-211-2750.
