South Putnam board approves 2020 budget advertisement
In a very short special meeting convened without an audience, the South Putnam School Board approved to advertise South Putnam Schools’ tentative budget for 2020 Wednesday evening.
In statements made before the motion was approved, Superintendent Bruce Bernhardt recognized Administrative Assistant Terri Beasley and Corporation Treasurer Hilarie Logan for their work helping him compile information and order the budget.
Though no specific details on the budget were discussed during the meeting, Bernhardt also briefly explained the reasoning behind where the budget currently sits. He provided that the budget itself and the tax rate is typically set higher than normal, while revenue is lower than expected.
Bernhardt said the estimates which are advertised are not guaranteed to be held up by the Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF), so budgets must be set higher in order to get the most money possible.
Bernhardt also reminded that a public hearing on the budget is set for Wednesday, Sept. 25. The hearing will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the MS/HS Learning Center.
