A historic Greencastle home, now outfitted with decorations and furniture of its era, will be open for tours on Saturday afternoon.

Located at 126 E. Washington St. in Greencastle, Doc’s Inn will host an open house from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Greater Greencastle Chamber of Commerce members already got a chance to tour the home, recently opened as an inn by Dr. Steve and Janna Kissel, and Saturday will be the public’s turn.

In its 126-year history, the Queen Anne Victorian home has had four different doctors as its owner or resident.

Dr. John Leatherman and his wife Lucy built the home in 1893.

Later Dr. Ray, who had fought in World War II, came back to the states and bought the house, remodeling it and enclosing the porch to serve as a waiting room.

Dr. Fredrick Detloff later lived in the house for a short time.

Finally, the Dr. Kissel is the current owner, with he and wife Janna opening it as an old-time inn, complete with a full-time innkeeper who lives on site.

Janna Kissel emphasized that they have taken steps to either maintain or restore the historic nature of the house, keeping plaster walls and utilizing paint colors of the era.

“People might be interested in seeing what things looked like during that historical time,” Janna Kissel said.
