Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated a pair of recent property-damage crashes.

• At 9:24 p.m. Samuel R. Fry, 46, Roachdale, was westbound on State Road 236 in a 2016 GMC when he hit a deer.

Damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 11:47 a.m. on Sunday, emergency personnel were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash with airbag deployment at State Road 240 and State Road 75.

When fire personnel arrived, the vehicle was no longer at the scene.

Furthermore, Putnam County Dispatch received information that the vehicle was called in as a possible drunk driver on U.S. 40 in Hendricks County.

When Deputy Matt Biggs arrived, he observed where the vehicle had left the road and hit a tree.

Dispatch then informed Biggs the vehicle, a 2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, had been located at State Road 75 and County Road 700 South in Hendricks County, about two miles north of the crash site.

The driver, 46-year-old Gary L. Gillenwater of Martinsville, was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated.

When Biggs arrived at the scene of the arrest, Gillenwater had already been transported to the Hendricks County Jail.

Hendricks County authorities informed Biggs they would handle the driving while intoxicated charge. In Putnam County, Gillenwater was charged with leaving the scene of a property-damage accident.

The SUV was towed. Biggs estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.
