The Putnam County Community Foundation has announced the winners of this year’s Share the Dream contest, which are the Bainbridge High School Alumni Scholarship fund and the Putnam County Museum.

More than $72,000 was raised this year during Share the Dream, the foundation’s annual fundraising contest which started May 1 and ended Aug. 1. The Putnam County Community Foundation awarded nearly $42,000 in matching funds to the qualifying endowments.

The Bainbridge High School Alumni Scholarship fund raised the most amount of money with more than $21,000 for their endowment, winning an additional $1,000 grant.

The Bainbridge High School Alumni Scholarship fund was established in 2012 to honor the legacy of Bainbridge High School and to provide financial support to students wishing to further their education.

“Our scholarship endowment will now be able to not only fund a four-year scholarship every year, but as it continues to grow it will provide additional scholarships,” said Janet O’Hair, a Bainbridge High School Alumni Scholarship committee member.

The Putnam County Museum received 76 gifts from 71 unique donors during the contest, winning an additional $1,000 for their endowment.

The Putnam County Museum Endowment was established in 2000 in order to provide income to ensure the maintenance of facilities and exhibits for the museum.

“The wonderful exhibits, speakers and events that take place at the museum today, are, in part, funded by gifts made to our endowment in the past,” Executive Director Lisa Mock said. “Just imagine what we can accomplish in the years to come, because today’s donors took the long view and chose to have their gifts grow in the endowment garden. The years ahead look brighter and brighter because of our Share the Dream donors.

“At this rate, we’re going to have to hand out sunglasses!” she added.

“It is truly incredible to see the community unite and support these endowments who continue to support our county year after year,” said Communications Director Neysa Meyer of the donations.
