Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 4:25 a.m. on Thursday, Todd B. McColgin, 35, Roachdale, was eastbound on State Road 236 about a half mile east of County Road 450 East in a 2005 GMC Sierra when he hit a deer.

The truck was towed. Damage was estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 10:48 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, Andrew Haltom, 18, Coatesville, was northbound on U.S. 231 in a 1993 GMC Sonoma. He told Deputy Tanner Brown he met a southbound ambulance with its emergency lights activated so he pulled over to the side of the road.

After he had come to a complete stop, Haltom’s vehicle was rear-ended by a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Dillon Cannon, 17, Fillmore.

Cannon told Brown he saw the ambulance traveling in the opposite direction and then he noticed Haltom’s truck stopped. Cannon tried to avoid Haltom’s vehicle, but was unable to do so.

Cannon further said that he did not know that both directions of travel have to yield to emergency vehicles when their lights are activated.

Both vehicles were towed but neither driver was injured.

Brown estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.
