WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy recently announced that Indiana 4th District Congressman Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) will serve as an outside conferee on the House-Senate Conference Committee to resolve differences in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2020.

Baird is the only Republican selected from the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology to help negotiate the defense bill.

“Whether it be that of a pig farmer, a scientist, an infantryman, a state representative or now a U.S. congressman, Jim’s commitment to this nation has been unwavering,” said McCarthy. “The unique and challenging experiences he’s faced, including his time spent serving in Vietnam, will allow Jim to personally understand the similarly unique and challenging issues our Department of Defense faces today.”

“Providing our Department of Defense with the resources necessary to keep our nation safe and secure is incredibly important,” Baird stated. “I’m humbled to work alongside my colleagues to help ensure our servicemen and women are well-equipped to protect our freedom.”
