March for Change

Friday, September 27, 2019
Demanding an end to fossil fuel dependency, climate activists begin a march from the Putnam County Courthouse to the DePauw University campus Friday. A continuation of a march from campus to downtown last week, this demonstration drew a few dozen community members and DePauw students and staff members voicing their support for climate justice.

  • Demanding an end to fossil fuel dependency, climate activists after reaching DePauw campus got into their own gas-guzzling cars and drove home.

  • While I admire the kids for caring about our environment they don't know what they are asking. Our nation depends on a reliable source of affordable energy and we will not be able to supply the need with Wind or Solar. Plus the fact that wind and solar are highly subsided by the Government. Both solar and wind have a high installation startup cost and the are require constant maintenance ( wind especially). Taking away Fossil Fuels leaves only Solar, Wind, Hydro and Nuclear. Fossil fuel consist of anything that is converted by burning. Presently the list is Coal, Oil, Natural and Propane Gas. There is one more Fossil that is doing more to clean the environment than a multitude of marches and demonstrations and that is TRASH. Nuclear hasn't proved completely safe , neither in the USA or other countries. Oil and Gas cost far more than Coal so if we do completely away with Coal the price of a kWH is skyrocket. Doing away with Coal will deplete the Gas and Oil supplies and possibly force the USA to become dependent on foreign countries to supply our needs. If we become dependent on foreign countries they set the prices without regulations.

  • Very cool! It's nice to see people actually standing up for what they believe in! Our climate IS changing and if you can't see that for yourself already then you have your head in the sand!

  • I just can't buy into hype that isn't being led by the scientists, they say, have proved this. Rather, led by children and "activists". Those scientists have children. Those scientists exist in the same air we do. I don't see them running around towns and waving cardboard that will be thrown away and......wait for it.....burned. Entertaining, none-the-less. Carry on.
