City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to 17 dispatches in the last week:

• At 5:45 p.m. last Monday, GFD was dispatched to 301 E. Seminary St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived about 5:46 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 5:52 p.m.

• At 8:56 p.m. last Monday, GFD was alerted to a tree on fire near 1697 N. U.S. 231. Firefighters found the tree at 9:01 p.m. and doused the flames, which were under control by 9:25. GFD went back into service at 9:46 p.m.

• At 8:17 a.m. last Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Beta Theta Pi for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 8:20 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 8:28 a.m.

• At 12:20 p.m. last Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:21 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 12:24 p.m.

• At 6:55 p.m. last Tuesday, GFD responded to a reported structure fire at 1009 Shadowlawn Ave. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 6:57 but found that the fire had been put out before their arrival. GFD went back into service at 7:15 p.m.

• At 7:04 p.m. last Tuesday, GFD was dispatched again to 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:07 and determined the alarm was again due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 7:12 p.m.

• At 10:23 p.m. last Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to Phi Beta Phi for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:25 but could not determine the cause of the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 10:30 p.m.

• At 4:38 p.m. Last Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to Humbert Hall for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:39 and determined the alarm was due to burnt popcorn. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 4:48 p.m.

• At 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, GFD was called to 610 Apple St. to retrieve a cat stuck in a tree. GFD arrived at about 10:50 and was able to get the cat down. GFD went back into service at 11:24 a.m.

• At 7:54 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Bloomington Street Hall for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:59 and determined the alarm was due to vaping. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 8:11 p.m.

• At 11:44 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched again to Humbert Hall for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:49 but could not determine the cause of the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 12:04 a.m. into Friday.

• At 10:02 a.m. on Friday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident without injuries at County Road 350 South and County Road 275 East. Units arrived on the scene at 10:09 to find that the victims were removed from the vehicle. GFD assisted with patient care, and then went back into service at 10:18 a.m.

• At 12:21 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to the Putnam County Hospital for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:24 but could not determine the cause of the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 12:37 a.m.

• At 9:43 a.m. on Saturday, GFD was alerted to a small oil spill at the intersection of Jackson Street and Veterans Memorial Highway. Units found the spill at 9:45 and used oil dry to clean up the oil. GFD went back into service at 10:03 a.m.

• At 6:49 a.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 605 Crescent Dr. for a smoke scare. Firefighters arrived at 6:58 and found that a furnace motor had blown up. GFD ventilated the property and went back into service at about 7:17 p.m.

• At 11:28 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 412 S. Jackson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:29 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 11:31 a.m.

• At 1:10 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:12 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 1:20 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed 14 medical assists and had seven disregards during this time.
