John Norberg, a Lafayette journalist, writer, humorist and recently-retired director of communications for development at Purdue University, will be the featured speaker at a dinner sponsored by the Purdue Alumni Club of Putnam County on Thursday, Oct. 24.

The 6:30 p.m. dinner will be held at Autumn Glen and is open to the public.

Norberg, author of several books, including two on Purdue’s link to the space program and NASA, recently published “Ever True: 150 Years of Giant Leaps at Purdue University” celebrating the 150th anniversary of Purdue’s founding in 1869. He will discuss this book during the event.

Martin Jischke, president emeritus of Purdue, called the book “an engaging, inspiring, and beautifully written history of one of America’s most distinguished public universities. It tells the story of Purdue from its humble origins through to its emergence as a preeminent research university.”

France Cordova, president emerita of Purdue, says the book is “a long, thrilling ride on the Boilermaker Special … with wit and humor, Norberg captures the spirit, the adventure, the stories and the achievements of one of America’s oldest and most admired institutions of higher education.”

Norberg, a member of the Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame, is a DePauw University graduate and began his career at the Brazil Times. He was a 30-year journalist with the Lafayette Journal & Courier.

The cost of the dinner is $20 per person.

Reservations can be made with Sandy Williams at 653-3523 or Ron Birt at 526-2466 by Oct. 18.
