Eva Merle Butler

Eva Merle Butler, 96, Ladoga, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, surrounded by her family.

She was born on Dec. 29, 1922, in Bainbridge to the late W. Earl Staggs and Susan Mae Staggs.

She married the love of her life, Lloyd “Coach” Butler, on June 1, 1950. He preceded her in death.

Eva was very active in Roachdale Christian Church. She was an Avon representative for 30 years, a member of T.O.P.S. and the Friendly Square Dance Club. She loved to travel, spending time with her family and her farm.

Eva was an avid hummingbird watcher and she also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy!, playing bingo and doing crossword puzzles.

She is survived by three children John Butler and companion Janet Fogleman of Ladoga, Patricia and the late Bill Bright of Delaware, Ohio, and Donald Ray Bassett and wife Wanita of Greencastle.

She had nine grandchildren, including Taneema (Greg) Norman of Crawfordsville, Lisa (Dan) Goodman of Ohio and Donnie (Robin) Bassett of Cloverdale. She had nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

A private celebration of life was held at Servies & Morgan Funeral Home in Ladoga with Melvin Ford officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Roachdale Christian Church, 1 N. Walnut Street, Roachdale.
