Helen C. Godfrey

Helen C. Godfrey, 104, of Greencastle, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019

She was born Oct. 4, 1915 in Parke County, the daughter of Albert and Rose Ann (Lancaster) Thompson.

She married Rodney Godfrey on April 30, 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1985.

Helen graduated from Greencastle High School in 1934 and attended special adult classes in ceramic, art, violin and music appreciation from 1954 to 1968, receiving credits at DePauw University.

She was a member of The Assembly of God Church, Greencastle.

She was a former member of the Putnam County Art League and Business & Professional Club.

Helen was a bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward and later for two businesses she and her husband owned, a machine shop and a violin shop.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Fred and Glen Thompson; five sisters, Irene Wood, Lorene Blacketer, Louise Sallust, Maybelle Rice and Daythel Poe; and sister-in-law, Kathryn Thompson.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Rev. Troy Trout officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
