Letter to the Editor

Farm to Fork organizers thank sponsors, donors

Tuesday, October 22, 2019

Dear Friends:

Cloverdale Dollars for Scholars, Greencastle Alumni Scholarship, North Putnam Dollars for Scholars and the South Putnam Scholarship committee hosted a Farm to Fork dinner to raise funds for scholarships for Putnam County students.

The committee was dedicated to providing a locally-produced dinner. Ruth Myers catered the event. The producers of the food for the dinner were Legan Livestock and Grain, Brock Family Angus Farm, Chandler Farms and Neier Farms, and Chandler Farms donated apples. Bonnie Bryan and the Putnam County Extension Homemakers volunteers provided wonderful desserts. Five students from each high school helped bus tables and with clean up.

The Putnam County Youth Choir, under the director Carrie Hamilton with accompanist Lori Miller, provided entertainment.

Mariah Huge and Cara Stanley Cash shared with the guests where their scholarships took them and the much-needed help scholarship dollars provide.

The tables were loaded with local and Indiana-produced agriculture products for the guests to take home.

The donors included Conspire, Kaylie’s Kandles, Bob Gruener of the Putnam County Beekeepers Association, Larry and Anne Lazarz of Larryland Adventures, Country Folks Greenhouse, ETA, Pat Gottschalk, the Bridgeton Mill, the Indiana Soybean Alliance, the Indiana Pork Producers Association and the Indiana Beef Cattle Association.

Sponsors for the event included: (Platinum) the Indiana State Department of Agriculture, Legan Livestock and Grain and Co-Alliance; (Gold) Cargill of Linden, the Eitel Community Visions Fund, Farm Credit of Greencastle, First National Bank, Gavilon Grain of Ladoga, Hoosier Heartland State Bank, Dave and Sue Murray, the Putnam County Hospital, Tri-County Bank and Trust and Al and Joan Tucker; (Silver) Buser–Knapp Farms, Cloverdale Agri Center, Ron Gladow of Corteva Agriscience, Noble Fry, Phillip and Janice Fry, Anthony and Karen Heavin, Kiwanis of Greencastle, North Salem State Bank, Parke County REMC, Putnam County Farm Bureau, the Roachdale Revitalization Cooperative Alliance, Spear Corporation of Roachdale, Alan and Mary Zerkel, POET Biorefining, Todd and Katrina Lewis, Putnam County Extension Homemakers and Nathan Scott and Katrina McGowan.

The committee appreciated all the donations, sponsors and our guests who helped make this event a success. Their support not only provides scholarship dollars, but a message to all students that the people in Putnam County believe in our youth.

Thank you,
