The Janet Prindle Institute for Ethics will host a panel discussion on the issue of neutrality and objectivity in journalism on Thursday, Oct. 24.

The program will welcome Peter Catapano, the editor of “The Stone,” a philosophy and ethics blog published by The New York Times; William Hamrick, a 1966 DePauw graduate and emeritus professor of philosophy at Southern Illinois University; and Gary Hicks, a professor of communications at SIU who has written on the power of journalists and problems they face, and specifically on media portrayal and stigmatization of mental illness.

Associate Professor of Philosophy Andy Cullison, who is the director of the Prindle Institute and a 2001 graduate, will moderate the discussion.

The event is free and open to the public, and is set to begin at 7 p.m.

The panel discussion will take place in the auditorium of the Prindle Institute, which is located at 2961 W. CR 225 South.

The event is co-sponsored by the Pulliam Center for Contemporary Media and the philosophy department at DePauw.

The Prindle Institute produces the Prindle Post, as well as the Examining Ethics podcast. It also manages the PEA (Philosophy, Ethics, Academia) Soup blog, a forum inviting insights and research in ethics from scholars worldwide.
