HSPC expanding spay/neuter voucher program

Wednesday, October 23, 2019

The Humane Society of Putnam County (HSPC) works in partnership with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department to rescue and find “fur-ever” homes for the homeless cats and dogs in Putnam County.

Through a financial commitment and providing volunteers to work at the shelter, the partnership is thriving, officials said. Rescued Treasures, an entirely volunteer-run resale shop is owned by the HSPC and proceeds from it benefit not only the animal shelter but also programs that directly benefit the dogs and cats of Putnam County.

One of these programs is the Spay/Neuter Voucher program. These vouchers will cover up to $100 of the cost to spay or neuter a cat or dog (two pets per household per year), plus $20 toward rabies vaccination if needed.

The program is only available to Putnam County residents with a valid ID and a list of participating veterinarians are listed on the voucher.

In the past vouchers were only distributed the first Friday and Saturday of every month. This successful program has been expanded and vouchers are now available every Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Rescued Treasures. Persons may call the shop at 653-7174 for more information.

In addition to this change the Humane Society would like to remind the community that donations can only be accepted at Rescued Treasures, 1021 Indianapolis Rd., Greencastle, during operating hours, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.

The community has been generous in donating to support the dogs and cats of Putnam County, officials said, but when donations are dropped off when the shop is closed that leads to an unsafe situation for both the public and the volunteers at Rescued Treasures. Many of these donations are ruined by the weather and must be thrown away.

Additionally due to space constraints inside the store, at this time it is unable to accept donations of furniture.
