HOLLANDSBURG -- Two members of an Amish family were killed Saturday morning when their horse-drawn buggy was struck from behind on U.S. 36, east of Raccoon Lake Bridge, Parke County authorities said.

The Parke County Sheriff's Department said a local Amish family of four was westbound about 9:45 a.m. when the buggy was struck by a westbound 2019 Ford van driven by Steven Miller Ealy, 66, of Danville.

The accident occurred about five miles west of the Parke-Putnam county line.

The collision forced the buggy off the road with one of the four occupants pronounced dead at the scene, while another died later at the hospital.

The other three Amish occupants were either flown to hospitals in Indianapolis or taken to Clay County Hospital at Brazil. Parke County authorities had no word on their conditions.

Ealy was uninjured in the accident. There currently are no charges pending against him

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash, authorities said.

Westbound at 9:45am, so the sun wasn't a factor.

An Amish carriage would have a reflective slow-moving-vehicle triangle attached to the rear, so that wasn't a factor.

60mph+ truck coming up from behind on a major highway and there are no charges pending?!?!

The guy needs to be charged. This wasn't an accident (a situation beyond control); this was negligent homicide.
