PUTNAMVILLE — A former medical service provider was arrested recently for allegedly maintaining an inappropriate relationship with an offender at Putnamville Correctly Facility.

On Oct. 3, contractual medical staff member Marla Shappard of Terre Haute was interviewed after evidence was found indicating she may be involved in such a relationship.

During questioning, Shappard admitted to being in an inappropriate relationship with an offender at the prison and talking with another offender at different facility where she also worked.

Shappard was told charges would be filed with the Putnam County Prosecutor’s Office and she was escorted off facility grounds.

On Oct. 10, 2019 a warrant was issued by the Putnam County Prosecutor’s office for the charges of Level 5 felony sexual misconduct by a service provider and Level 6 felony official misconduct.

On Oct. 28, Shappard turned herself in at the Putnam County Jail and provided a cash bond of $2,500 and was released pending a court date.

“We have a zero tolerance for this type of behavior and will prosecute to the fullest extent of the law,” Warden Brian Smith said.
