DePauw University Band presents concert with guest Albrecht Von Gaudecker on Sunday

The DePauw University Band will give its second performance of the 2019-20 season at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Green Center for the Performing Arts.

Organist Albrecht von Gaudecker will join the DePauw University Band for a performance of “Symphonie Concertante” by Joseph Jongen during a concert at the Green Center for the Performing Arts this Sunday.

The university band’s second performance of the 2019-20 season will begin at 4 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium.

In addition to the “Symphonie Concertante” performance, arranged by DePauw trombone professor James Beckel, the concert will also feature works for winds, including Antonín Dvorák’s “Slavonic Dance No. 1,” “The Miller’s Dance (Farruca)” from Manuel de Falla’s ballet “The Three-Cornered Hat,” Saint-Saëns’s “Pas Redoublé” and Rachmaninov’s “Vocalise.”

A native of Hannover, Germany, von Gaudecker studied sacred music at the Hochschule für Musik in Weimar, Hamburg and Lübeck. After receiving a master’s degree, he went on to study at the Martin Luther University in Halle/Wittenberg and at the Hochschule für Musik in Leipzig, where he earned a master’s degree in music pedagogic and an artist diploma in organ.

As a recitalist, Albrecht von Gaudecker has performed throughout Germany, Austria, Poland, Netherlands, other European countries and in the U.S. Since 2017, he has served as the music director at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Greencastle.

The program will also feature the DePauw Saxophone Ensemble, directed by professor Scotty Stepp.

The event is free and open to the public, and no tickets are required. Audience members are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated directly to the Putnam County Emergency Food Pantry.
