LWV event to host Moms Demand Action representative Nov. 14
Gun violence has become a pervasive issue in American politics. Every year, more than 36,000 Americans are killed in acts of gun violence and approximately 100,000 more are shot and injured.
Additionally, firearms are the second leading cause of death for children and teens and the first leading cause of death for black children and teens in the U.S. Every year, nearly 3,000 children and teens are shot and killed and approximately 15,600 are shot and injured.
The Greencastle League of Women Voters is hosting a public meeting featuring Meganne Masko of Moms Demand Action at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Putnam County Public Library, 103 E. Poplar St.
Masko is an educator and the group leader for the Hendricks County chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
Moms Demand Action is the largest grassroots gun violence prevention group in the United States. With chapters in every state and more than six million supporters, the group works to pass stronger gun laws and close the loopholes that jeopardize the safety of families.
Moms Demand Action also works in its own communities and with business leaders to encourage a culture of responsible gun ownership. The group is committed to doing what it takes to keep families safe. Moms Demand Action is part of Everytown for Gun Safety.
Moms Demand Action was founded on Dec. 15, 2012, exactly one day after the Sandy Hook school shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead, and has continued to advocate for gun control and safety.
