INDIANAPOLIS — Students at both South Putnam High School and Cloverdale High School got to feel the excitement of the spotlight during the National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis recently.

On the heels of great success had by North Putnam’s contingent, South Putnam’s FFA chapter made a respectable showing as well with seven students competing at the national level.

Its Agricultural Communications team ranked silver at the convention as the 19th-best team in the nation. Evan and Drew Steffy were recognized with individual gold and ranked 25th and 31st respectively. Brady Robinson and Alex Steffy earned a bronze ranking as individual presenters.

Madie Newby and Jackson Hayman were also the silver-ranked team in the Plant Systems category, while Brodie Carr won silver as an individual in the Power, Structural and Technical Systems category.

Cloverdale’s FFA chapter sent the team of Max Kaufman and Jimmy Kendall, who were finalists this year in the Food Products and Processing Systems category.

While South Putnam was not recognized among the top teams, 54 students attended over the three days of the convention to explore college and career options. FFA adviser Chris Kaufman related that many attended the Old Dominion concert on Oct. 30, while others attended a rodeo on Halloween.

A story on North Putnam’s success at the convention was printed earlier this week.
