Daniel Robert Tesmer

Wednesday, December 4, 2019

Daniel Robert Tesmer, 75, of Greencastle, walked through the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019.

Born Jan. 28, 1944 in Norwalk, Ohio, he was the son of Theodore and Ruth (Lutts) Tesmer.

Dan was a 1962 graduate of Bainbridge High School.

Dan was a “giver” who always helped those in need most proudly, was a devoted Christian who spent nearly every day of his adult life reading and spreading the word of the Lord.

Humbly, Dan was a decorated Purple Heart recipient after serving in the Vietnam War as a seargent in the United States Army.

He was the very definition of a “man” ... Always putting family first and working from a young age to support his mother and siblings. Beyond that, you would never hear Dan ask for pity or help. He lived every day with humility and was prideful in every aspect of his life and love for God.

Dan also loved flying planes and was a flight instructor for several years. Following retirement from the United States Postal Service, Dan spent countless hours involved with his church, assisting those in need through mission work, taking care of his farm, camping and spending time in their Florida home. Most of those things were done arm in arm with his love of his life, Charmaine.

Dan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charmaine (Hornaday) Tesmer; children Faith (Frank) Lenihan, James (Kristi) Tesmer, Jon (Angie) Tesmer, Joe (Teri) Tesmer, Rebecca (Ahmed) Alkhali, Ruth (Terry) Stanley, Mary (Lee) Akers and Grace (Josh) Buis; sisters Judy (Chuck) Foster and Mary J. Tesmer; and brother John Tesmer. Notably, Dan loved as much as anything spending time and making memories with his 30 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ted and Jerry Tesmer and sisters Barbara Williams and June Weed.

The family will welcome and receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 at New Life Baptist Church located at 51 Ridgeway St., Greencastle. Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 at New Life Baptist Church. Interment with military honors will follow at Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Twin Lakes Youth Christian Camp. Checks can be mailed to the camp at 1451 E. Twin Lakes Road, Hillsboro, IN 47949 or contact Jon Beight at 765-366-7944 to donate via credit card.
