Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated five recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:18 p.m. Alisha E. Bell, 20, Roachdale, was westbound on State Road 236 near County Road 425 East in a 2006 Chevrolet Impala when she hit a deer.

Deputy Jeffery Freeman estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 3:26 p.m. on Sunday, Emily B. Clarke, 32, Brazil, was westbound on U.S. 40 in a 2019 GMC Acadia when a dog entered her lane of travel and she could not avoid hitting the animal.

The dog died on impact. The owner of the animal was contacted.

Deputy Brian Helmer estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 10:36 a.m. on Sunday, Emmitt W. Eastes, was eastbound on County Road 200 North just east of County Road 674 East in a 2007 Ford F150.

Eastes told Deputy Helmer that as he went over a hill, he lost control and hit a fence on the north side of the road, snapping one pole and causing another to shift.

Helmer estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 6:28 p.m. on Friday, Barbara S. Feld, 86, Greencastle, was turning left from northbound State Road 75 onto westbound State Road 240 in a 2011 Kia Soul. Robert J. Speedy, 21, Beech Grove, was stopped eastbound on 240 at the four-way intersection in a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr.

As Feld proceeded out of the intersection, she collided with Speedy’s vehicle, damaging the driver’s side front of both vehicles.

Feld told Deputy Freeman she believes Speedy entered the intersection, causing her to hit him.

However, Speedy said he remained stopped behind the white line and Feld cut the turn too sharp.

Freeman said the debris field from the accident was in the eastbound lane, consistent with Speedy’s version of the story.

Feld estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 3:40 a.m. Wednesday, Samantha J. Gordon, 29, Indianapolis, was westbound on U.S. 40 near County Road 275 East when her 1999 Chevrolet pickup began gradually leaving the roadway, entering the ditch.

The pickup hit three mailboxes before coming to rest in the ditch

Gordon consented to a blood alcohol testing, registering at .17 on the portable breath test and later at .24 on the certified test.

The truck was towed. Deputy Freeman estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.
