Thanks, presentation highlight Cloverdale School Board meeting

CLOVERDALE -- Offered a “thank you” by an educator and a quick lesson on types of trees, the Cloverdale School Board addressed routine matters during its last monthly session of 2019 Monday evening.

In a public comment made before the meeting got under way, Sam Jones of the Cloverdale Education Association offered a commendation to the board and Superintendent Greg Linton for supporting Cloverdale teachers who attended the Red for Ed rally in Indianapolis on Nov. 19.

Jones related that approximately 30 teachers, as well as students from both Cloverdale Middle School and Cloverdale High School, attended the demonstration, and emphasized the importance which has been placed on issues such as testing and teacher pay.

The Cloverdale FFA’s forestry team of Micheala Nees, Hailee Young, Sadie Priest and Max Kaufman, with adviser Chris Kaufman, also demonstrated to the board how different tree leaves and seeds could be identified. The team placed in recent Area V forestry contests, and will participate in a state contest this Saturday.

The board also recognized Cloverdale’s Students of the Month. Third-grader Brylie Minnick came from Cloverdale Elementary School, seventh-grader Cadence Whelchel represented Cloverdale Middle School and senior Eric Stattner was honored at Cloverdale High School.

The board also approved the following personnel report:

• Resignations: Zach Waycott, Cloverdale High School Media Center; and Rita Crecelius, Cloverdale Elementary School/Cloverdale Middle School part-time cafeteria aide;

• Volunteer: Rebecca Raisor, Cloverdale High School volunteer color guard coach;

• Coaching:

- Hire: Wade Warren, Cloverdale Middle School assistant wrestling coach;

- Volunteer: Wade Warren, Cloverdale High School volunteer assistant wrestling coach; Kade Schroer, Cloverdale High School volunteer assistant boys’ basketball coach; Sean Brannigan, Cloverdale High School volunteer assistant baseball coach; Chris Hoffa, Cloverdale High School volunteer assistant baseball coach; Dameon Poulton, Cloverdale High School volunteer assistant baseball coach; and Anthony Rossok, Cloverdale High School volunteer assistant baseball coach.

Before the meeting was adjourned, Linton thanked Jones for his comments, and highlighted the continuous community donations which Cloverdale Schools has received in the past several months.

The first meeting of the Cloverdale School Board in 2020 is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Arthur L. Johnson Administration Center near Cloverdale High School.
